Terms of Service

These are the terms for using HausGenius. They’re written in plain English, and sit alongside our Privacy page, which covers your data specifically. By using this site, you’re agreeing to what’s below. Neither this page nor the Privacy page is a substitute for professional legal advice, and this page has not yet had a formal legal review.

What HausGenius is

HausGenius helps you describe a home improvement job in your own words, and shows you a shortlist of businesses with the evidence we could find behind each one - things like an active company registration or a confirmed website. We are a discovery tool, not a marketplace, a booking platform, or a party to any agreement you make with a business. We don’t take a cut of any job, we don’t process payments, and we’re not involved once you choose to make contact.

We don’t vet the quality of anyone’s work

The evidence we show - a Companies House match, a confirmed website, a published certification - tells you what’s been checked, not whether a business will do a good job. We do not verify insurance, qualifications, the current validity of trade certifications, safety records, or the quality of anyone’s past work, unless we’ve explicitly said we have. Always do your own checks before hiring anyone - ask for references, confirm insurance and any trade certifications directly, and get a written quote.

You’re always in control

We never contact a business on your behalf, and we never send your details to one automatically. Calling, emailing, or visiting a website is always something you choose to do yourself, and any conversation, quote, or agreement that follows is between you and that business - not us.

About the businesses we show

Business listings are compiled from public sources (principally Companies House) and, where available, a business’s own website and Google Business Profile - see our Privacy page for the full detail. We make reasonable efforts to keep this accurate, but we can’t guarantee it’s complete, current, or error-free - public records can be out of date, and a business can change (closing down, changing hands, losing a certification) faster than we can re-check. If you spot something wrong, we want to know - see the Privacy page’s “Business information” section for how (a channel we’re actively working on).

AI-assisted content

We use an AI model to help turn your description into a structured job specification, and in places to help draft business-facing text. AI output can be wrong or misleading. You can review and correct anything before it’s used, and you’re responsible for checking it reflects what you actually mean before relying on it.

Using the service

You can use HausGenius as a guest, without an account. You’re responsible for what you submit - don’t post anything false, abusive, or that isn’t genuinely your own job description. We can remove content or restrict access to the service where we reasonably believe it’s being misused.

Don’t misuse the service

Specifically: no scraping, automated bulk access, or attempts to extract our business data at scale; no attempts to interfere with the service, overload it, or bypass any rate limits or access controls; no impersonating another person or business.

No liability for outcomes

To the fullest extent the law allows, HausGenius is not liable for any loss, damage, or dispute arising from your interaction with a business found through this site - including the quality, safety, legality, or outcome of any work carried out. The service is provided “as is”, without warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any business listed is (or remains) suitable for your job.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product develops - this is an early-stage product and some of what’s below may change. We’ll update the date at the top of this page when we do; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the update.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
